Make A New Friend

By the 2nd month our pattern was established- 5 AM climbing Bear Mountain or 5:30 AM climbing Mount Baldy. On a light week we'd climb three times, on a busy week seven. I was getting stronger. My climbing was getting less painful, but I wasn't losing my extra weight. I was actually consuming more calories now that I was working hard in the early morning. I was becoming more disciplined in one area and less disciplined in another. This simply wouldn't do. When I began eating less I discovered that my level of energy increased rather than decreased. I was actually feeling better.

By month three I was finally in a healthy, disciplined routine. I stayed there for years, not because of my own inner strength, but because of the continuous accountability of my partners. MANY times I didn't FEEL like climbing. MANY times I was TOO tired or TOO sore or my schedule was TOO busy... but I climbed anyway.... because good men- good friends- true brothers in the Lord- were spurring me on.

What are you willing to do to include someone like that in your life? Are you willing to adjust your schedule or change your priorities? Are you willing to get up earlier? When it comes to any spiritual or physical discipline that is for your good, make the effort! Reach out to friends or make a new friend. Do whatever it takes, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
