The Christ Life

"You'll starve to death before you catch those caribou." Ira Krueger was an experienced hunter and didn't want me wasting time and energy. It was November, bitterly cold, and I was on my first caribou hunt. We pitched our tents in the snow, melted snow for water, and wished we had brought warmer boots. Even from the air we hadn't seen a single track much less an animal, but overnight a small band of caribou crossed close to our camp. My toes were too cold to stand still, so I followed the tracks anyway.

I figured a 'small chance' of success was better than 'NO chance." We view success differently, don't we? Ted Williams, arguably the greatest baseball hitter of all time, got 4 hits with every 10 trips to the plate. Wayne Gretzky, the greatest scorer in NHL history, made fewer than 1 in 5 shots on goal. We don't simply call that 'success'- they are the best of the best.

We need to keep this in mind when we are witnessing to others about Christ. No one considers the more than 4,000 shots on goal that Wayne Gretzky missed 'a failure.' Every single miss was a valid attempt that thrilled the fans. Those attempts were a key ingredient to his success. When you invite others to church, when you share your faith, you are BEING SUCCESSFUL. Never allow yourself to become discouraged. Many of those living around us are ready for a NEW life, a DIFFERENT life, the CHRIST life. Be blessed! -Pastor Brad
