The Aroma Of Life
I couldn't get my frozen fingers to work. My partner loaded my rifle and zipped up my coat. There was a foot of fresh snow on the ground, and we were at the bottom of a steep ridge. I started climbing immediately. Ten minutes later, part way up the ridge, I was warm and toasty and felt fine for the first time in many hours. We walked all day and saw nothing but an occasional track in the snow. We were up high, so just before dark we started to descend the mountain.
Suddenly Doug put his hand on my chest to stop me and pointed to his nose. I inhaled and could just detect the musky scent of an animal close by. Just like that, our senses were on high alert. When you think about it, our sense of smell is an amazing gift. Before the fruit comes, God makes apple blossoms that are beautiful to see and delightful to smell. Flowers, fresh cut grass, autumn leaves, spruce needles, turkey or warm bread in the oven- all carrying their own distinctive aromas- smells that enhance our experience and trigger fond memories, making us hungry for more.
2 Corinthians 2:15 begins, "For we are the aroma of Christ..." Be honest- when people are around you, do they 'catch the scent' of Jesus? They should. I hope it's true of me. I want them to experience love and grace and acceptance as people dearly loved by God, but most importantly I want to introduce them to THE WAY, THE TRUTH and THE LIFE that is Christ. When you walk into a room, bring the aroma of LIFE and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
