Draw Near To Me

I had no idea where my partners were. I reached the top of the mountain ridgeline right at sunrise. I had hoped to see Tim and Larry's camp from here, but no luck. I had a general idea of where they would be camping, but with the Dall sheep gone I figured that they would be looking for me. Our plan had been to meet up just below me where that other hunter had screwed us up. This was my first sheep hunt, and I didn't want to mess up my partners' day by having them out looking for me. I decided to follow the ridgeline back up the valley to see if I could spot them anywhere.

I'm always amazed by how much country you can 'cover' when you are on top of a mountain. In minutes I saw way more country than I could have seen in 2 or 3 hours if I was walking the valley floor. You can always see more clearly when you are standing on high ground. This is true in every area of our lives. When we tell the truth, we stand on high ground. When we are faithful to our marriage vows, we are standing on high ground. When we provide for our families, we are standing on high ground. When we share our faith, we are standing on high ground. But here's the deal- you can't walk two different roads at once.

This means that in order to walk on the high road I need to tell the truth AND honor my marriage vows AND be a provider AND share my faith. Consistency matters. Isaiah 35:8 says, "And a highway will be there. It will be called The Way of Holiness. It will be for those who walk in that way. The unclean will not journey on it. Wicked fools will not go about on it."

And just like standing on top of that mountain, when you walk in the way of holiness you begin to see everything clearly. More than that, you see many things that are impossible to see from the bottom of the mountain. God tells us in James 4:8, "Draw near to me, and I will draw near to you." Be blessed! -Pastor Brad
