Ask God To Show You
We put on our heavy packs and jumped into a vertical shale slide. I wasn't happy about it, but my partner, Tim Hand, had grown up in these mountains, so I trusted him. Our return to camp, which would have been over an hour of suffering down that steep ridge, took about 15 minutes. Another lesson learned. Though they were nearly 8 miles away, we could see where our rams had bedded down.
While we had used ATV's to go 17 miles before we started hiking, Tim's dad, Larry, hiked in and met us. Larry was pushing 50 years old and was as tough as they come. While Tim and I both had 60 pounds of food and gear, Larry went sheep hunting with a sleeping bag, rifle, ammo, bino's, knife, lighter, a ziplock bag of coffee grounds, and a bag of hard candy. No tent, no stove, no food, no water bottle, no raingear. But I can tell you, he had killed a lot of sheep.
We all have different ideas of what we NEED. I know a family of 7 who raised their children in a one room cabin with no running water. Their definition of 'need' is very different from yours and mine, isn't it? One of the things that adults learn as we get older is that possessions are a burden. Most of us desire to simplify- to hold onto only those things we truly NEED. Jesus said, "A man's life does not consist of the abundance of his possessions." This is so true, isn't it? Ask God to show you how to simplify. Release those things you don't truly need, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
